Cumulus did similar in Atlanta, although it was not for a station sale. They flipped their heritage Alternative 99X to CHR (Bigger signal for then Q100)
The 99X brand was moved to a couple places. First to 99.7 HD-2, and on probably the nicest Cumulus website at the time. They added an airstaff and called it “Visual Radio” with a video stream that included album art and facts (Not unlike Music Choice on cable)
Eventually they basically pioneered the HD-2 on analog FM translator and it went back to being a more typical radio station. They flipped it a few times and since brought it back.
Most of Cumulus’ Alternative stations around the country actually use programming, imaging, etc that originates from WKQX. These days WWWQ HD-2 (99X) is one of them.
