Alternative is girly emo drivel like the Imagine Dragons. Not sure why that stuff gets grouped in the same category that used to belong to Nirvana, or even second-wave grunge like Bush, Foo Fighters and Silverchair.
You're right, the labels don't care. The late 90's pop tarts like Spears and Aguilera paved the way for Swift, Perry and Kesha. Mass-produced pap that they can sell as serious artistry and the dumbed-down public working 90 hours a week in cubicles for Bill Lumbergh eats it up with a spoon.
