Alternative is mostly synth pop now.
Pop is all noise recorded on computer software. Almost impossible to find a new song with a memorable hook, chorus, etc.
Country is kinda like Rock now, except with a southern accent and "Girl, Drank, Truck, Girl" over and over again. The term for this is "Bro Country" The steel guitar sound Country was known for is not there anymore. Country and Rock seem to go hand in hand. Actually some rock artists have crossed back and forth as have Country artists.
Hip-Hop has become dominated by "Mumble rap" It's insulting.
My theory is the labels do not care. They get paid very little since everybody streams now using Spotify, Youtube, etc. Less than a cent per stream. So why invest into creativity? Just release junk and they'll take it. Radio has no other choice but to deal with it. It's no easy task.
