If iHeart is so committed to country, could they try a decades-based (90s/00s) county format for the older country fans who grew up listening to Garth Brooks, Reba MacEntire, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Toby Keith, Alabama, Shania Twain, etc. At least it would be different enough from US99 which is current country hits.
Again, I could see a flip to alternative or modern rock if iHeart wants to beat Entercom to it. That doesn't mean that it will happen, however. Also, alternative isn't as hot as it used to be. That said, WKQX isn't changing formats. They made that mistake before with the demise of the original Q101.
Finally, as much as I like WYTZ95FM's proposed idea of a Rhythmic-based 80s/90s/2000s CHR format, I really doubt that iHeart would flip to such a format if indeed they deside to pull the plug on country.
Should 95.5 flip formats if country continues to fail? Yes. Will they actually flip? Probably not.
