That 92.7 frequency down in Kankakee has had an interesting history over the years. And we thought some of the downtown Chicago frequencies changed formats a lot!
On the topic of CHR radio over the years... an interesting study is the former WBUS-FM 99.9 "Kankakee-Chicago" with a greater signal coverage area. I understand their billing was decent. They had been CHR for quite a while, somewhat rhythmic-leaning, if I recall correctly; though they played their fair share of Tom Petty, Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen, Smithereens, etc. In short, a very unique playlist.
I found it interesting, and still so, that four 99.9's are in close range of each other: WJVL-FM Janesville, WQLQ-FM Benton Harbor, WTHI-FM Terre Haute, and of course the WCPQ-FM. On certain days with certain atmospheric conditions, the 99.9 frequency is very interesting to say the least.
