This is nothing new. The government has always been political regardless of party in charge. The consolidators bankers need large layoffs and this is just the next step in not doing what is right, but what the consolidators need. If fcc does this, then a roll back of consolidation should be part of the deal. Then owners that abandon markets can be subject to competition from owners that don't abandon markets.
1996 consolidation law was from politics.
Rules for non comms not required to have main studio was politics.
Who got local radio allocations was politics.
The fcc is a wonderful case lesson in how government functions and it is not related to any single party.
