The last time I permed my hair was Last February. The first inch or two was scarry. It then grew out much softer. I would advice to not cut of your permed hair all at one time. The straight hair on the ends gives you hair some weight and therefore lenghtens your natural curl and it wont be so tight on your scalp. My hair now is just glowing and alive. But to get me there, I wore a weave for the first time in my life and braids and pieces. I like to put it back with lots of gel (alcohol free) and put a piece on it. Just slick it back and put a tight scarf on it until it dries. Also it's o.k to press it out. This is what saved me. When I missed my permed hair. I went natural because the perm was drying my scalp out horribly and my hair was thinning. Now my scalp is heathy and not dry. I get lots of compliments on my hair now! What I suggest? Get a good vitamin (I use MSM from the health store. Great for hair, skin and nails.) Of course check with your doctor. I also love Elussence shampoo and conditioner. Whenver you comb it or brush it gently pull it out to lengthen then comb starting from the ends. Hand in there?
: Hey everyone. I stopped perming my hair about
: nine months ago, and the growth is amazing.
: My hair doesn't shed as much as it used to
: and it just keeps growing. However, for the
: past month I have had it in braids, because
: I knew I would be tempted to perm it if it
: wasn't. I still have a considerable amount
: of perm, I just can't bring myself to cut it
: off. I have been cutting it monthly, but I
: don't believe I will look attractive with
: short hair. Anyway, this past weekend I
: washed it and conditioned it,and I don't
: know what to do. I am contemplating going
: back to relaxers. I am just not confident in
: my appearance anymore, and I don't like not
: feeling like a beautiful black woman. At the
: same time, I don't want to feel like I
: wasted nine months trying to get this thing.
: But I dunno, the color is different and
: everything. I have never colored my hair,
: and I didn't realize how much the relaxers
: had lightened it. But I like the lighter
: color. Anyway, I need some support. I'm in
: college and most of my friends are still
: perming there hair and they look great. My
: mother doesn't want me to grow it out
: anyway, and no one really believes that I
: can do this thing. I want to believe I can,
: but I am starting to see that maybe I can't.
: Thanks for listening.
