Last year I was diagnosed with scarring alopecia. Even though I am rather young and have only had relaxers for 8 years I have this problem in the center of my head. I'm not completely bald but the hair is short and my dermatologist says that the hair loss may be permanent. I let the relaxer grow out for one year and went back to the hot comb but didn't like this alternative. The doctor (an african american woman with natural curly hair) wanted me to stop all chemicals and heat which I tried to do for a while. I got an affirm sensitve scalp relaxer and don't plan on getting another for four months. In the meantime I am looking for natural styles but frankly I don't really like them. I like braids but I can't wear them too long because my hair is so fragile and I don't like locs. What other alternatives do I have? My hair is fine and shoulder length. When I wash it it's very kinky and draws up quite a bit. Where can I find natural hair styles for long hair that promote healthy hair without heat, chemicals, pulling, etc.?
