Just today I went and got my hair cut really short. It had gotten to a point where nothing else was working. Even after a year and a half, the relaxer was still "hanging on" the top of my new growth. This is okay for now. However, once it grows out I need someone to work with me. I am not talented when it comes to styling hair. What types of products should I be investing in. I really need some help.

: Have you tried to find natural hairstylists in
: your area? Many women will work with your
: natural texture...

: After about 25 years of perms I have decided
: to let it grow natural. I am determined to
: let it stay natural. However, support for
: natural hair is almost non existent in my
: area. I now rotate between braids and
: pressing my hair. I do this because no
: stylist I know is committed to helping me
: maintain my hair. All they do it try to
: talk me into getting another perm or some
: type of curl.
:
: I rotate because I have heard that braids
: are not good for your hair for extended
: lengths of time. My hair is soft and fine,
: which makes it even harder to manage
: naturally. I am not sure that I want locs.
: In my mind that is also a permanent
: commitment. What if I don't like them. I
: am also not sure that I want to cut all of
: my hair off to start them.
:
: I would like general advice on what to do.
: I really am at a loss. All I am sure of is
: that I really do not want another permanent.
