Voicemail Integration in Cellular MSC
Posted by Paul Jack on August 30, 2011, 3:00 pm
Hi all, I'm working on a research paper on how voicemail systems are integrated into cellular providers. I currently understand that in both GSM and CDMA systems there is a MSC which is the Mobile Switching Center. From what I understand so far, voicemail systems are a sub-module attached to the MSC. Hopefully I understand this correctly so far. It's from this point I'm having difficulty understanding the integration.
One site stated that, "The voicemail system connects to the MSCís in a GSM network by way of voice trunks and SS7 signaling links". So, going by way of that statement I believe the voicemail system is basically making a call using the ss7 protocol to the voicemail system.
I would love any corrections to my understand as well as any links, graphics or anything else you could help me with.
