Mingy's lovely photos has prompted me to take my favorite classic Clea doll out of storage and spend some long overdue play time with her. The photos also made me have a new appreciation of an old friend. While I love the current vinyl articulated dolls, and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the new resin Clea and DeeDee, there is something so beautiful about the original Clea. While some collectors may have complained that classic Clea's face was too stylized and unrealistic, to me it is one of the prettiest faces ever produced for a doll. She has such a sweet and friendly expression to her face, and I love her green eyes. The body on classic Clea, while missing the extensive articulation so many of us love now, sports graceful lines that are unfettered by the lines necessary for articulation. Classic Clea has some of the most beautiful legs ever on a fashion doll. I also love how Christina was wise enough, not only on classic Clea, but current and future editions, to make sure that Clea can wear the same size shoes as Gene or Tyler. Which is wonderful, because my dolls love to share shoes and boots. And Clea has given us some of the most beautiful shoes too, something I hope we will continue to see produced as we move into the next generation of Clea dolls. And finally, this particular classic Clea, Mother's Day Garden Party, has a very special place in my heart. Not only did she come dressed in an ensemble that I collaborated with Christina on (I took her original sketch and interpreted it into the fashion), but this doll reminds me of the fun times we had in those early days of Clea, working on the collection, and getting it ready to present to the public.
The photos I am sharing shows Mother's Day Clea wearing the Rain ensemble (one of my faves in Clea's wardrobe). Sadly this is my only classic Clea doll I have left in my collection. The others were adopted into new homes, and my other Clea and DeeDee dolls are the second generation articulated vinyls. But my classic Clea isn't going anywhere. I love her so much.
Hope you like the pics
