The Dream House I am building is coming along, bit by bit. My goal is to try to create a decor that is inspired by mid century modern style. Something I feel that could display well whether someone in the 50s such as Gene is living there, or one of the more modern 16" girls. I'm pretty happy with how the living room and bedroom are coming along. The living room is really coming into it's own nicely. The downtown windows give it a modern appeal, and it could easily be a downtown condo. However I'm not sure about the windows, as I might want something more suburban. I'm still deciding. I love the artwork in the living room. The horse prints were a gift from another collector (as was the wonderful miniature Asian chest of drawers), and the larger painting is by Brian Noveck (posts here on Prego and ICOG as Brian in CA). His style of art goes perfectly with mid century modern, IMO. The bedroom was looking too traditional until I added the center panel of light brick. Then it began to take on a look similar to what the house on the Dick Van Dyke show looked like. The furniture will be giving a light golden varnish to make them have the resemblance to Heywood Wakefield pieces, and by the time I'm finished the placement of the furniture will be different. There will eventually be a window added to the center of the brick panel. The Dining Room is the least mid century modern looking of all, and the challenge will be how to give it that look. I think the fireplace and chairs are too traditional and old fashioned for what I eventually want, but for now it is working because it's better than a blank room. I would like to build a couch, chair, dining room table and chairs, bed and a couple of odds and ends to complete the house. The living room will get an assymetrical lean to roof, and the bedroom will get a roof too. And there will be a new floor/ceiling between the dining room and bedroom.
I'm not sure what doll will eventually be the primary owner of the dream house. Technically it should be Clea since this is her Room With A View system, but I'm sure she wouldn't mind sharing with the other dolls too. Alex agreed to show the house off because right now she is the only one appropriately dressed to do so, LOL! I'm having the time of my life putting it together, deciding the floor plan, the decor, etc. It's like having my own house, in a way.
I hope you enjoy the pics, and I'll post more as the house progresses.
Thanks!
Vince
