Posted by Jill Congratulations on your pregnancy. It is important to determine what type of EDS you ahve as soon as possible, because the delivery of the baby in soemone with vascular type EDS requires special planning and is a very high risk situation. To reclassifty your EDS based on local anaesthetics that do nto work is not enough grounds for an accurate diagnosis. You need to see a geneticist straight away for a proper diagnosis and skin biopsy to prove whether or not you have EDS IV (now known as vascular type EDS) Pain control and pregnancy is difficult because most medications cross the placenta and are harmful to baby. It is recommended that you try alternative approaches like massage, warm moist compresses to afffected areas, etc. About the birth - that really depends upon the type of EDS you have, previous healing issues, etc. --Previous Message-- Link: The Canadian Ehlers Danlos Association

Hi Kasja,
: Hi, I am 28 and now 12 weeks pregnant
: with our first child. I was
: diagnosed with hypermobile type EDS 4
: years ago, although my family doctor
: is now thinking I may actually have
: type 3 as local anisthethcs(sp?) do
: not work on me and never have.
: My problem is that I am experiencing
: a lot of lower back and pelvic girdle
: pain. This is possible harder on my
: husband than me as I am somewhat used
: to being in pain all the time. I
: have a couple of questions for all of
: you: 1) do you have any suggestions
: for controlling pain or inflammation
: while pregnant, and
: 2) I am going for a vaginal birth at
: my doctors suggestion because of poor
: scaring, does anyone have experience
: with vaginal delivery with an
: unstable hip, and EDS?
: Thanks for your help!!
