Hi guys are you still there I came down with a huge depression and we have moved to a house now. we actually never thourgth that we were going to have more than one child because of all the pain it caused me, and ofcourse my husband, who has to deal with me in the pain. we planned to have a second child and he is now one year old. I gave birth 2 months premature (8 weeks) and some genetisists came and looked at him in the nicu, to see if there were any sign of EDS and this was the time where I found out that if you pass the EDS gene from yourself to your baby, the baby has a big risk of being born premature. the doctor actually saw the prematurity as a sign/symptom of EDS. Now we know that he does have EDS because he has dislocated his little shoulders 9 times. at least we know which way to guide him academicly...away from construction jobs.
There is a lot of pain associated with pregnancy and it is hard to find medication relief, i found a creme that helped me it is called DICLOFENAC 10% and I was allowed to take Tylenol 3 *rarely* Do respond to me with all Your questions WHATEVER they might be I am not shy, I will tell You my experienses, because it is hard to go through pregnancy with EDS pulling your arm.

: Hi Tanya,
: I have EDS III and have gone
: through
: 2 pregnancies. I was told I was
: hypermobile when I was about 12 or
: so, but did not have too many
: problems until my first pregnancy,
: by
: the time I was around 6 months
: pregnant I could barely walk because
: of the pain in my legs and my hips
: wouldn't stay in socket. I didn't
: really understand at the time what
: was going on as medical care stinks
: here and I kept ( and am still)
: getting swept under the rug and told
: it would go away in time. It is 5
: 1/2
: years later and I have a hip that
: won't stay put and a lot of pain
: every day. I love my daughter
: dearly
: and she is a gem. I would not trade
: her for anything. But do not push
: yourself, if you're joint is not
: stable ask for help getting things
: or
: doing things, have someone help
: support you when you walk or get a
: cane to help with stability. If you
: would like someone to talk with or
: any help/advice. please contact me
: kiconroy@telus.net
: Best of luck to you,
: Kim

: Wow. This is daunting. I'm only 24,
: and already, both hips are bad,
: socket wise (I have type 3 EDS with
: some overlapping type 1
: symptoms)..one hip is much worse
: than the other, and bedroom
: gymnastics can mess it up for days
: afterwards.
: This thread is extremely important
: to me, as I have alot to do before I
: have children, and I can't see
: myself as a mother, medical issues
: or not, until at least age 30.
: But I'd like to bring some levity to
: this thread since we all seem to be
: type 3s here, or at least, to all
: type 3s reading this: my geneticist,
: this past fall, assured me that if I
: give birth, I shouldn't be any more
: likely to have FATAL complications
: or major compromising issues for
: myself or my baby when I DO choose
: to have a baby, and I assume he
: didn't think I was having one
: immediately.
: The info about bed rest is a
: familiar thing too, but as I am
: thought to have thin blood vessel
: walls (not thin arterial walls,
: which I'm grateful for)..so I wonder
: about the wisdom of having a
: ceasarian at any time in my life,
: over vaginal delivery.
: It is an important goal of mine to
: someday have at least one child,
: maybe even two..hoping for a
: daughter.. ;-).. however, my
: boyfriend of a year and I have
: already discussed children and
: marriage, and it's obvious he'd
: rather be a parent much sooner than
: I (up to five years sooner), so that
: is also an issue.
: I wonder, do any of you know of any
: advantages to be had in freezing
: one's ova while they're still young
: (I'd do it now while I'm 24)..and
: how much this would cost in Canada,
: or if any of it could possibly be
: covered given
: it stems from a severe medical
: condition..though I suspect any such
: proceure is still viewed as some
: sort of whim, not covered by the
: gov't at all.
: Try to have hpe, guys, and don't
: give birth before you're ready to be
: a mother for life, that's what I
: say! Good luck to all..
