HI there,
My son has EDS type 2 and has just had arthriscopic surgery on his right knee. He is 10 , his problem was that his knee would "lock up" on him and he couldnt straighten it out. Turns out that his miniscus was like his skin in terms of being stretchy and it was gathering in his joint causing his knee to catch up on it. The doc stitched it down to tighten it up and now we wait to see how it works. My wife and I also wondered about the operation but decided that we would give it a try. The problem was that we never knew when the knee would lock up or not. The last time it did he was trying to swat a bee off his leg. Hope this helps

: I am looking for other people's
: opinion. My 12 year old daughter is
: having problems dislocating her
: right knee this year. Has happened
: twice. So now the orthopedic
: surgeon suggests surgery. (he took
: a sample of the fluid in her knee
: today, and said that if it is clear
: it is fine, but if there is blood
: then severe damage has been done) It
: was blood. I am not sure what to
: think. He says that the operation
: should prevent dislocations (get her
: through the next few years) until
: she stops growing. This has also
: become a "quality of life
: issue" because it limits her in
: her life. There are only so many
: accomadations that people can make,
: schools, camps etc. She is missing
: out on things. I have EDS, but have
: never had knee dislocations. I want
: to hear from people who have had the
: operation, how long it works, any
: problems, and also what if we do not
: have the operation. Thank you for
: any help.
