I had a lateral release performed on my right elbow a year and a half ago. I'm better off now, but have found that I still need to wear the elbow brace. I also had surgery on my right wrist at the same time to remove a cyst, and that was unfortunately on the same tendon as the one the lateral release was performed on. I'm not 100% back to normal, but am better nonetheless.
