Re: FCSearch vs. FD Online Platinum

I can tell you in great detail about the two. FC Search has a powerful search engine and the ability to mark and save searches for later publication. It is published every 6 months to coincide with the 6 months updates of the paper copy of the Foundation Directory or it's supplements. The Foundation Directory Online has the same information, but unfortunately, does not have the marking and saving capability. Every record has to be copied and pasted into a word document, which then can be saved. I had FC Search for many years and really liked the product, however, the geniuses in the IT department kept tweaking the program just enough, so that the previous program is incompatable with the current data. I found out about this after having loaded FC Search on 100 machines (all of them had to have their security disabled on installation, then reinstalled after installation). IT neglected to tell Erika Wittleib, who was completely surprised when I called. It was frustrating with each update some more tweaking was done. Our automation department was always delayed in installing the updates, and I finally gave up and went with the Foundation Directory Online, a clearly inferior product in terms of convenience. I know that the technology is there to match FC Search's Mark & Save capability, I'm not sure why the Foundation Center doesn't partner with an established company to get it done. Sincerely, Jeff Imparato, CC Supervisor, Topeka & Shawnee COunty Public Library.
