FC Search vs Foundation Directory Online

Greetings all. I am a new Cooperating Collection Supervisor at Springfield-Greene County Library and am finding myself a little confused on the difference between 'The Foundation Directory Online' and 'FC Search (CD-ROM).' I realize that it is mandatory for a CC to have one or the other, if not both. We currently have FC Search on CD-ROM, which I love. How does Foundation Directory Online differ -- other than the fact that it's web based as opposed to CD-ROM? My predecessor had mentioned a web based FC Search that she had been looking at -- is that what Foundation Directory Online is, for the most part? Thank you for your patience!
