Elaine, Hello we have been through the "anoplasty" surgery and though it was an easy surgery the after has been stressfull and hard and painfull. After her surgery to pull down her anus and sew up the atresia we could not wipe her at all for a few weeks. After the stiches were healed we started at home ditilation. This is the hardest part, we have to slowly up the size of the plastic that we are inserting into her anus 2 times a day. If we dont do this her body may reject her anus and close it up. It breaks my heart to have to do this but the alternative is not good either. She is phobic of her diaper being changed and this has gone on for 3 months now. We cannot start her on regular food and she has to have a stool softner or she blocks up. All in all we have been lucky, however the surgery was a breeze its the recovery time that has been hard.
Feel free to Email me,
Jennifer & David Birch
