Posted by Nico 2 I haven't been around here for a really long time and i thought i would come and drop by a note from the land of the rising sun (is that how you call it in English?) where i am right now. I ended up doing an exchange program to Japan for this year and so far so good although now i wish i had studied some japanese before comming here A few weeks ago i went to Yokohama to meet with Yukari and stayed with her family for a few days. We had a really nice time together. Tada was also around Osaka where i am and we were suppoused to meet for dinner the last day he was here but unfortunately he fell sick that morning and to return earlier so we postponed our plans. The person i've seen the most is Juan Pablo who just lives about an hour away from where i am and we keep in touch quite often...last weekend we took a trip to Kyoto together to see the autumm leaves in some very nice temples. The one thing that has caght my attention here are the cellphones...japanese cells are lightyears away from chile's...i got the cheapest model that comes for free with the plan and i very much doubt that the chilean system could handle it...it's almost impossible to keep in touch with Japanese friends without one...the main feature i like of it is an email account you can handle through it...very usefull....lately i've found a new passtime in downloading new tunes to play when i get an email...right now i have sakura and funeral music by chopin :0 Anthropology has not been far from me here as i am taking a class on eating in Japan and am working right now on a paper about starbucks in Japan. I hope the anthro spirits bless me with inspiration to do it...the only problem so far is interviewing people since i don't speak enough japanese...that's why i tried writing a questionnaire and giving it out but ppl seemed incredibly afraid of me and got practically no responeses...i wonder if i said something terribly wrong but pretty much everyone i asked to fill out my questionnaire would give me a scared face I hope you're doing very well! Best Wishes!! Nico 2

Hi!!!!
At least now i can not only use sign language but also mutter a few sentences in the wrong order but that somehow convey the message (sometimes quite the opposite of what i want...in example i have said many times, we ate together when what i meant was let's go eat and when that happens i either get puzzled faces or told where we went last to eat and asked if i liked the food
Studying chinese characters is quite fun too...that's one of my favorite parts of japanese.
