Thought people might be interested in hearing how New Years goes Ecuador style (I was going across the country (well from the outside to the middle)New Years eve before arriving in Quito just before the insanity so I got to see a few variations.) Basically, you burn the old year (lots of effigies of Osama, the twin towers being crashed into by a plane, George bush shaking hands with Osama, el Bolillo the soccer coach of Ecuador, people´s bosses, a random Uruguayan nurse who was fired, etc.) in a street fire and then you jump through the fire. Many burning tires. Much fun.
Anyway, thought I´d share.
