Try downloading the latest drivers for your scanner from HP. Then go to System in control panel. Hardware - Device drivers and remove the old scanner. Reboot and when windows asks you if you have a disk for the drivers say yes then install the new drivers from wherever you downloaded them to. Failing this. Try to update the drivers from "device drivers."
