I'm writing this with nothing but respect for the people of this town and Ky. in general. I was devastated watching American Idol Gives back on Wednesday night. They showed a family in Breathitt county and the conditions in which they were living - no heat, cardboard covering holes in their trailer. I was trying to find more information about the town. I donated to the program the other night but would love to know if there's anyway to help more "hands-on". I don't know if the show picked out a specific area of Breathitt that lives below poverty level or if the majority of the town is in bad shape. Do you live IN Breathitt? Do you know of any local organizations that could use help? I live in NY but was thinking maybe I could volunteer there for a week this summer if I could help.
