Have you made your trip to Kentucky? Canoe is the name of a community, not really a town. The Middle Fork of the Kentucky River runs along side the road for a couple of mile. The closest town with lodging , restuarants, etc. is Jackson and it is located about 10 miles from Canoe Road. Just a few days after your last message, Breathitt County was hit with a very damaging flash flood. The Canoe area was flooded, and several small hollows along Canoe Road were damaged with water and mudslides. Part of the main road (Canoe Road)was shut down for several days, but repairs have been made. The roads are now passable and you should be able to reach the cemeterey where Nathan Lewis Arrowood and several of his family are buried. I live about 5 miles from the cemetery. E-mail me direct at kayseegee@yahoo.com and I will give you directions to the cemetery.

: There are several cemeteries in the
: Canoe area of Breathitt County where
: members of the Arrowood family are
: buried. One of the largest is the
: Louisa Arrowood Cemetery, which is
: also known as the Nathan L. Arrowood
: Cemetery, which is located at the head
: of Canoe. Nathan L. Arrowood
: (1818-1905) who is recognized as one
: of the earliest Arrowoods to come to
: Breathitt Co. is buried here along
: with his son George Washington (G.W.)
: Arrowood, who is my great-grandfather.
: Many other family members are buried
: here. There is also the Hiram or Vica
: Lou Arrowood Cemetery which is located
: on the Buzzard Fork of Canoe. There
: are several other small cemeteries
: located in this area with Arrowoods
: buried in them. Hope you get a chance
: to visit.
