Well...per "Descendents of Jeremiah Smith b.1794", there was a Joseph Smith born in 1861 in Buckhorn, KY d. ???..........Joseph was born to Richard Sylvester Smith b. 1830 d.1869 & Nicey Jones b. 1832, daughter of MILTON JONES & ELIZABETH JONES. Nicey was born in Clay City, She & R. Sylvester Smith married on 11/27/1851 in Buckhorn.
Times are about right - Joseph would have been 25 when he married your gg grandmother. No mention of her in the stuff I have, unfortunately. Most all of the Smiths from Buckhorn travelled on to Breathitt Co. though.
R.Sylvester Smith's brother was Lewis Smith, Sr. b. 1834 in Buckhorn d. April 26, 1881,
My great grandfather was Lewis Smith, Jr. & my grandfather was Govan Begley Smith. My grandfather was also born in Buckhorn in 1876, but died in Jackson, KY (Breathitt Co.) in 1926.
It's weird......I remember visiting an uncle, Uncle "Joe "Pig" Smith, but I would have been around 8 yrs old, which would have made himm like, 95 & he surely wasn't THAT old!!?? It was my daddy's uncle, but he had no uncle named "Joe", so go figure. However, I DO have a photo of "Joe Pig" somewhere & it looks old. Daddy was born in 1902: Elisha Hollan Smith & lived in Jackson all his life. Wish I could find out who Uncle Joe Pig (smith) was...but ALL my realatives, siblings, everyone is dead that would know. Good luck! Hope I've been some help.
IF I CAN FIND OUT WHERE ANY OF THESE PEOPLE WERE BURIED (PROBABLY WILL BE LEWIS SR. OR JR....I'LL LET YOU KNOW.
