BTW it is still called Old Buck. It is where you turn at Dexter Spencer's gas station. My grandmother lived there and I spent several summers and other times there.

: I am a descendant of Thomas Johnson and
: Miranda Combs Johnson. They both died
: at about age 77--he about 1898 and she
: about 10 years later. They lived on
: "Old Buck Creek" of the
: Middle Fork Kentucky River area about
: a quarter mile from the Middle Fork
: Bridge between Jackson &
: Booneville. His father was Jessee
: Johnson.
: LOTS of Johnsons settled in the Middle
: Fork Ky river areas. I note that my
: Thomas Johnson' father had lived near
: current Bell County/Harlan County line
: on Straight Creek and moved to
: Breathitt area circa 1840. MOST of
: their Johnson relatives had lived in
: now Pike County and seemingly in a
: nearly coordinated effort moved to
: Middle Fork KY River area from
: Buckhorn to Booneville area circa
: 1840's.
: My mom's family of Spencers, Gilberts,
: Combs, Gabbard, Turners, Chadwicks
: lived in the communities of Guerrant,
: Shoulder Blade Creek, Old Buck, Turkey
: Creek etc. I have a 2003 photo of
: what is left of the giant tree that
: my GGG grandfather Tommy Johnson left
: standing in the mid 1800's when he
: cleared land on Old Buck Creek.
: I am descended via their daughter
: Fanny Johnson (1868-1951) who had
: children Evan Hounshell and Sarah Jane
: Howard. Late in life circa 1920
: Fanny was married to an Ike Terry.
: Glad to help as time permits -- email
: me directly at
