My G-G-Grandfather Eli Thompson was born sometime between 1819 and 1827 in either Ashe County VA/NC or possibly Lee County VA and moved to Kentucky when he was around
18 yrs old. The 1840 Breathitt County census shows Eli at 21 years old as a farmer, from Virginia that cannot read or write and living with George & Elizabeth Jones and their children: Louisa, Nancy Ann, Sarah, Sylva, Emiline, and Lewis.
Eli met Elizabeth "Betsey" Raleigh (born 1834 in Kentucky) and married her around 1851. After fathering 2 sons; John and Daniel, Eli died September 15, 1858 in Breathitt County, Ky. I recently visited the old Thompson cemetery located on a hill south of Whick but due to fallen trees and severely worn markers was unable to locate markers for either Eli or Elizabeth. I would appreciate any information regarding Eli and his family in either VA or NC.
