Yes, the QD II is an excellent
detector to start with, especially
for the low price. It is mainly
designed for dry land searching but
will perform OK on beaches too. For
salt water beach it will work best
in the dry upper beach but will
also work on the wet sand if you
adjust the sensitivity control to
lessen the capacitance effect of
the wet sand. You can submerge the
coil under water but be careful to
not get the control box underwater.
Naturally, this one is not meant
for exclusive water searching. For
that there are completely water
proof units made for underwater use. The QD-II will surprise
you with its ability to make many
good finds and the 3 audio ID tones
are a big advantage.
