Posted by plataguitar Went out today (into the real world), and in all metal mode, picked up a few clads, bulletts, piece of native copper (a beauty) - all in non disc. mode. I have always hunted with no disc, and have done well because I dig it all. Anyway I decided I should learn how to use the other modes in the field. Boy was I surprised. I hunted very well in all metal, but I NEVER got the signal right to be able to use the disc. modes. Constant chatter and false signals galore. Even at min. sensitivity and disc / notch at minimum, and moving just fast enough to get a signal from the motion mode, it was beep beep chirp chatter beep chirp beep.. Get the picture. Now we have mineralized ghround, but not that bad. Even went to some imported turf near the house, and it was the same thing. Totally erratic and basicall unable to use in those modes. I read the bad detector thread, and did some serious searching, but can't see any cracks or splits anywhere. Suggestions anyone. By the way NEW Batteries alkalines too. Had some fun and liked the depth I was getting in all metal, but would like to get all i can from the tool.. Sincerely plataguitar

Just took possession of a second hand 63-3015. Studied the manual and all I could find on the internet for most of (two cold) days. Plenty of time to bench test and get a handle on how the disc, notch, and id worked. Tested and handled exactly as I expected. Decent depth and a reasonable id on repeatable signals.
