Bill, I just rec'd my 1st Land Star yesterday. Loaded fresh batteries mounted coil and connector per the book. Did some backyard testing today with no problems. I didn't do any digging but had solid readings 1" to 8"(had 1 10" lock on trash/foil @very slow sweep). Did air testing on lawn with coins, all registered nominally at depth indicated. (I'm renting a 20 yr old house that I doubt has been swept b4, so I think the 3 solid $.50/silver hits I had are real. I'm going to find out tomorrow.) I hate to say it but you may have one that needs to go back to the factory. Give'em a call first and tell them the problems with the machine. I hope you get it resolved.
