Van Hoogstraten stocked my book "The German Woman" - and it was a joy to be able to deal with a bookstore which understood the purpose of what I'd done, and was so complimentary about Alexandra's "very voice" as it came over in my writing. Most book shops now stock what the publishers marketing staff tell them to stock; it's wonderful that some bookstores still live and thrive on the basis of what their owners are interested in and truly know about.
