First I'd like to thank you, Marianne, for establishing this board. What a good idea to channel posts about Royal Books to one particular MB!
My favourite Royal Biographies are:
Elisabeth, Kaiserin wider Willen by Brigitte Hamann. Available also in other languages, see at amazon.com
A wonderful written biography about a very complex woman who was both, too emancipated for her time and somehow mentally 'disturbed'. No 'sugar-iced' book. All those who believe that the "Sissi" movies of the 50s show the reality, will be disappointed.
Then I'm reading the biography by William Shawcross of The Queen Mother with a great pleasure. Very entertaining and insightful. Recommendable.
