I'm with you on that, Bob, I preferred groups like the Trio and Brothers Four, but groups like the NLCR did make a significant contribution by preserving the old-time string band music. Don't forget that in those pre-Youtube days, it was very difficult to track down the 78 recordings by the old-time string bands. My problem with groups like the NLCR is that folk music is supposed to be a dynamic, evolving art form, not something that is frozen in time at the precise moment Gid Tanner and his Skillet Lickers recorded a song in 1929.
