So how'd I celebrate? I started this morning at 5:30 AM to get ready for a 7:00 AM rehearsal at church. Our worship team then played for two services, and unfortunately I missed a call at 9:30 from Bob Shane, who called to wish me a "happy birthday."
After church, Meri drove us home in her new golf cart. On the way we stopped to visit our neighborhood horse, Raffi (Meri calls him Charger) and fed him some apples. At 1:00, our former home team, the Denver Broncos, kicked off to the Atlanta Falcons and proceeded to turn in their first loss of the season.
Still wearing our Broncos t-shirts, Meri and I picked up a pizza from Papa Murphy's and shared it with her parents. That was followed by the obligatory birthday cake (no candles, thank-you-very-much!) that Meri had baked during the game.
Following dessert, the presidential candidates began their debate and I was on the verge of losing my cake. I have little respect for politicians and the ugliness of that endeavor. When I was with the Trio I had a line that I used occasionally to get a good laugh:
"Politics" - it's a despicable word based on two root words from the Greek language. "Poli", which means "many", and "tics" - bloodsucking insects. (Just my opinion, of course.)
So all in all, it was a pretty good day to be alive. And I thank God for one more lap around the sun. I must admit, tho, that my best birthday present would have been a call from my son, Graham. Maybe next year.
