This is going to be a huge adventure! I'm really looking forward to sailing on the ocean. The closest I've ever come to this kind of trip is some sailing on Puget Sound. My first sailing experience was here in Southern Oregon when I was in Sea Scouts. We had a Lightning-class 19-foot sailboat owned by our troop, plus a couple of little 8-foot El Toros. We'd sail on Emigrant Lake and one day I capsized one of the El Toros. Nearly froze my ass off in that cold lake. I learned a lot from that experience. But not enough, I guess. Years later I capsized my little 10-foot dingy in Portage Bay on Vashon Island. And that water was REALLY cold. Hopefully we'll have smooth sailing on this trip tho. Our Skipper has the route planned and weather is expected to give us favorable winds all the way home.
I plan to spend time writing some songs, catching up on some reading and learning how to navigate. I leave for Honolulu on Aug. 11th and hope to be home by Sept. 6th to celebrate my 25th year of marriage to Meri. If the sharks don't eat me.
