Re: New York Girls and new songs
Bob Shane was reluctant to add "new" old material to the show. He liked to stick to the repertoire that was comfortable for him and he hated to rehearse. Most of the "new" old material that we added to the show was done in a duet format, which allowed Bob to go off-stage for a smoke. "NY Girls" (or "Gals" as the boys actually sang it originally) was done as a duet. Some of the other tunes that George and I revitalized as duets included: "To Morrow", "500 Miles", "Southcoast", "Raspberries, Strawberries" and "Coast of California." Now I do recall that we somehow coaxed Bob into singing on "Run The Ridges", which we did only a couple times, and "Remember The Alamo", which we resurrected for the 150th anniversary of that event and then quickly abandoned.
