Here's the story, as I understand it: in the '60s, Gottlieb bought the Morningstar Ranch in Sonoma County, Calif., and it became sort of a hippie refuge. Dave Guard, for one, used to hang out there with Gottlieb. The local authorities freaked out about all the hippies. They hounded Gottlieb with injunctions, contempt charges, citations for health, fire and building-code violations, etc. Gottlieb, in turn, tried to deed the property to God. It was quite a cause celebre at the time. (Bob H. was at Morningstar when he had his audition for the Limeliters and has described the experience in an earlier post).
A lot of the ideas Gottlieb expressed in the video were ones that he had held since the Morningstar days or ones that he had developed in light of his Morningstar experience. Here's an expression of his views from a brief he filed in his Morningstar case: http://www.badabamama.com/mstarscrp/M179.html
