Trini probablly should be judged by his playlist rather than what instrument he played. If you look at that list you'll see many Kingston Trio songs like Lemon Tree, This Land Is Your Land, Cotton Fields, and other popular folk tunes like Michael and Sinner Man. You have to remember that by 1963 acoustic folk music was slipping rapidly ( The Kingston Trio's last hit The Reverend Mr Black debuted in April that year, Trini came along in July). Trini's presentation may not have been traditional folk, but many of his songs were. Also, he put a little latin spin on his tunes being that was his heritage. Dylan saw the inevitable, so did Trini and he jumped on it, but I believe the music should be labeled Folk.
