Other artists I enjoyed working with were the Limeliters (and Glenn Yarbrough as a solo), Mary Travers, John Sebastian, The Association (RIP Larry Ramos), Randy Sparks, Judy Collins - all very friendly and professional - no egos.
Here's a Judy Collins story that just came to mind. We were on a show with her at the Wisconsin State Fair - she was the headliner. There was an up-and-coming female solo artist who opened, then we did a set and Judy closed the show. At the end of her set we were all to join her for a finale of "Amazing Grace." After the run-thru at sound check I asked Judy's road manager if he thought she would mind if I played my saw on the finale. He said, "Let's surprise her."
So it came time for us to join her on stage and they had set me up a chair and mic for my saw off to stage left. During the first couple verses and choruses I just played some long sustained notes to harmonize and Judy looked over to see what the hell that weird sound was. When she saw what I was doing she spontaneously gave me a solo verse. I think I blew her away with that one!
