Sorry to hear about Pepper. I hate seeing animals suffer. The cone business sounded kind of bittersweet: evidently it wasn't a good thing he could circumvent it, but on the other hand, it didn't seem to traumatize him. My buddy's dog needed some serious stitches, but was intensely upset by the cone, sad and lethargic when he had it on. Once it was replaced with a big stuffed donut collar, he perked up again. He still couldn't get to his stitches, but he was more like himself.
Funny how that long long drive wears a body out. Cars today are more comfortable and get further on a gallon of gas, but a marathon turn behind the wheel takes a lot more out of me than it did thirty years ago. Sound like that's true for you as well.
