Ken told me about a group that has asked him to book them, but he is reluctant to do so until this group has management in place. He was hoping that I might consider taking on that project and he gave me a link to a youtube promo video of the group. Here's the link if you want to check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jhp-HZf1Y6o.
This video sucks, by the way. The group produced it themselves, so don't blame me for that. I think we'll probably have to start over with that piece of the promo package.
The group is calling itself "The ICON Experience", which doesn't bowl me over. But here's the line-up: Terry Rangno, bass (bass player for We Five since 1969); Richard Moore, lead guitar (lead guitarist for The Troggs for many years but also not an original member); Michael Lewis, keyboard (latter-day keyboard player with Sir Douglas Quintet and Quicksilver Messenger Service - not an original member); and Merrilee Rush, lead vocals (had a hit in 1968 with "Angel Of The Morning" - she is the original.) Also, this past Monday the group auditioned John York to play rhythm guitar. John did a stint with The Byrds (replacing Chris Hillman) and he's been touring lately with Barry McGuire.
The draw for this band is the various hit groups represented in the line-up. Of course We Five hit with "You Were On My Mind" and The Troggs hit with "Wild Thing." Can't name a single hit by Quicksilver Messenger Service but I remember the group from the psycodelic era. As an interesting tie-in, Chip Taylor penned both "Angel Of The Morning" and "Wild Thing".
I've actually known Terry from We Five for several years, so I had an instant connection with this group. I've also met Merrilee in the past - the Brothers Four did a TV show with her in Seattle once-upon-a-time. So over the past several weeks I've been talking with the members of the group by phone and basically they're begging me to take on this project and manage them.
I think this is an interesting opportunity. Any comments? Any thoughts for a name for this group???
