It seemed to me the music industry never managed to respect a large number of talented artists once their particular style of music was replaced by something new. Not just the KT when Capital Records signed the Beatles, but the likes of Jackie Wilson, Mary Wells and others nearly-forgotten who were actually cheated of royalties and like that.
I know the Grammy people and record company execs are different entities, but IMHO Grammy awards tended to go to commercially viable artists who were not necessarily the most talented. Most "Lifetime Achievement" prizes are indeed too little too late, and are merely a bow to pressure.
I doubt this award will inspire any youngsters to investigate and discover what talented pioneers Dave, Nick, John and even Bob Shane were. But at least it's something.
No awards of any sort are great enough to acknowledge what Dave, Nick and John put in my heart with their music and spirit, or what they gave posterity. But at least it's something.
