Festival recap"
As a member of both of the groups in which Tom Ivey performed (Cripple Creek--the festival's "house band"--and Pretty Good Folk, which includes my wife Amy), I'd like to mention that I had a great time at the festival, which struck me as having the best overall assembly of musicians in the six years I've performed there. The list includes Jim Young, Judy Piazza, Mango Fan Django, the Mitguards, Tenderfoot Bluegrass (I think that's the right name), a young girl (perhaps 12?), a young man named Ben something, and one or more groups and/or soloists whose names I've forgotten. We missed Bob's music and presence, and, of course, Meri, but Amy filled in as roving donation coaxer, though without benefit of 95 pounds of kazoos, cymbals, and other musical equipment. Special note about Amy: last year was her first year singing at Manitou Springs, but she only got to perform once, while this year she sang in four sets, and was dubbed by either Bud or Donna Ford as the Festival Chanteuse, an acclaim she truly deserved. You should hear her sing "Circle Game" (we missed Bob's tipple), "Rocky Mountain High," "For Bobbi," etc. Special note #2: meeting, listening to, and talking with Mark Pearson was an astonishing treat. Within hours, he, his wife Pat, Amy, and I were like old friends. And, of course, special thanks must go to Ron for his yeomanlike job of manning the product table. Can't wait till next year.
