Greenfields / Green Leaves Of Summer / Greensleeves / Greenback Dollar / Green Green
The first three are Bros. 4 songs and then I introduce the last two by saying "Here are a couple that got away from us."
In general, I like to open the show with something up-tempo and pretty killer. The second song can be something medium tempo with a light subject matter. As an example of this, when I was with The Trio, we would open with something like "Hard Traveling" and then follow with "Three Jolly Coachmen." That formula works pretty well in just about every situation.
From there, the third song can be a ballad and then I usually like to throw in a comedy song in about slot 4 or 5. In general the set should lead the audience through a series of emotions, gradually building to a peak toward the end of the show. Your biggest hits should go toward the end of the show and then I like to end with something up-tempo and memorable.
So, this Saturday I'm playing at the Salida Cafe in Salida, Colorado. I have two pretty good sets up until the end of the second one. I'm really heavy with ballad stuff left at the end (I need to write more up-tempo stuff.)
The biggest issue is the last song of the night. Sometimes I'll do a patriotic medley ("This Land Is Your Land" / "God Bless The USA" / "This Is My Country" / "God Bless America") So I might use that.
Any other suggestions?
