I was first introduced to Mike and Peggy Seeger through a class-mate in high school. Mark Wilson owned the first long-neck Seeger banjo I'd ever seen and he was way into The New Lost City Ramblers and anything to do with non-commercial folk. I couldn't relate much to the raw nature of that stuff - the vocals were shaky and it just seemed pretty amateurish to me at the time. I see more value in it today as my tastes have broadened, but I'd still rather listen to a polished group like the KT over the more home-spun likes of Mike Seeger.
That having been said, I'll hoist a glass to Mike's memory. Another one bites the dust.
