The U.S. Post Office has issued stamps featuring Blues and Jazz singers, but I really doubt I'll ever see a Lou Gottleib stamp or a Travis Edmonson issue, as much as these talented gentlemen influenced the folk medium.
But I DO expect acknowledgement, stamp-wise, of The Kingston Trio as a group, even though people for the most part don't know the members' names. But that's where my musings are ghoulish. As much as I hope Bob Shane lives a vital, happy life for the next decade or two, he'll pass away one day.
When that happens, I want to see some U.S. Postage Stamp Kingston Trio Commemoratives issued, and I want to know if anyone has any information about that. Is there a group or committee lobbying for this to happen, once Mr. Shane is gone? Dave Guard, Nick Reynolds and John Stewart deserve to be honored, but I figure it will have to wait until the group itself is honored. Perhaps there will be album covers reproduced on the stamps; at least something to acknowledge both the Guard trio and Stewart trio configurations.
Is there any organized effort among fans toward this end? Is there a specific department in the USPS to write to with suggestions? Some of you also frequent the Kingston Crossroads web page and have access to thoughts and ideas over there. I just figured this is something that DESERVES to be, when the time comes. You can bet the farm that there will be a Michael Jackson commemorative one of these days, so I don't mind making an effort to honor men I find more worthy.
Anything anyone can tell me will be appreciated.
