Miriam had quite a life. She chose the civil activist route in applying her trade but was always true to the legacy of the music she performed. It's sad to think she was forced into exile twice in her lifetime. First from her homeland of South Africa with her vocal opposition to apartied, then from the U.S. basicaly because of her marriage to Stokley Carmichael ( although she did share his veiws). She was Pete Seeger when it wasn't cool to be Pete Seeger. But like Pete she is now veiwed in a most positive way for her musicical interpetaion of traditional African folk music with a jazz edge ( She was also married to jazz legend Hugh Masekela).
She was a remarkable woman who will always remembered.
