As you may know, I had a chance to meet Mitt Romney at the Charlie Card inauguration event in Boston back in 2004. (See the photo on my Celebrity Photo page.) My immediate impression of Gov. Romney was that he was presidential material - he just has that aura about him. I also found him to be very personable and accessible. And - he has a good voice, too. He stood next to me and sang "MTA" with us.
Last Friday, Mitt Romney made a brief stop in Denver on his campaign tour. Meri and I stopped by his rally on the way to a show that day in the hopes that we might have a chance to say "hi" to him and have him sign the photo of the two of us singing together.
When we drove up to the car dealership where the rally was being held it was mayhem. I dropped Meri off and went to find a parking spot. When I got back to the rally Meri was nowhere to be seen. I kind of wandered around and found myself sorta "back stage" (I know my way around those areas!) and suddenly I spotted the Gov. chatting with some campaign volunteers. Meri had the photo, but I didn't want to miss the opportunity to say "hi." So I walked up to him, introduced myself and reminded him of our gig together. He said, "Oh - you're that guy - I remember you." I told him that I've been announcing to my audiences that he's promised me a cabinet post as Secretary of Fun and he laughed. And once again I sensed that Presidential quality in him.
We were initially supporting Tom Tancredo, our "wacky" state representative, who dropped out of the race last month. Tom is now endorsing Mitt Romney, as are we. Because of state laws prohibiting Independents from participating in tomorrow's caucus event, Meri and I won't be able to cast a primary vote for Romney. But we encourage all of you who can vote in the primaries to seriously consider Mitt Romney. He is the only true conservative candidate in the running at this point. He has strong American values, he opposes amnesty for illegal invaders, and he has a good track record as an astute business person. He is exactly what we need in a president at this point. Meri and I strongly support and endorse Mitt Romney for president. (I want that cabinet position!) A vote for Mitt is a vote for America!
