John was a gracious man, a gentle man. He loved this country to the depth of his soul and it is reflected in his songs. He wrote about times past such as CODY, MOTHER COUNTRY and THE PIRATES OF STONE COUNTY ROAD. He also had an eye toward the future and wrote songs like YOU CAN'T LOOK BACK and from the little known soundtrack to NASA's short WITH THEIR EYES ON THE STARS, the title song and rewrite of THOSE WHO ARE WISE.
At the same time John seemed deeply disturbed by the many negative changes in this country (as many of us are). This prompted him to write I REMEMBER AMERICA.
One final note, last August at FC8, John coined a new nickname for my wife, Ragene. He told her that her radiant smile reminded him of"sunshine". The name fits perfectly and will last the rest of her life.
For those of us that loved John Stewart and his music he will be sorely missed. My prayers go out to Buffy and John's family. John has found his TICKET TO THE STARS.
