I also know there have been issues with the use of The Beachboys name. And there was the notorious overuse of The Platters name. I remember seeing them billed in Japan and Hong Kong simultaneously. The different groups sorta had different territories, and I know there were legal wrangles over the use of the name, but I don't remember ever hearing how that resolved.
By the way, one thing I wanted to add about my business relationship with The Brothers Four: I can't remember one single instance where there wasn't unanimous agreement on something. In addition to being harmonious on stage, we were also harmonious in our relationship with each other. What a great bunch of guys! I was truly honored to work with them.
In fact it reminds me of a story that will be in my book. Briefly, we were on a tour of military bases in Texas. We were being driven around by a couple of ex-military guys who were hired by the promoter, Roy Raden, to be our roadies and baby sitters, I guess. Every morning as we'd gather in the lobby of the hotel ready to board the van for the day's journey, our driver would greet Dick Foley with a really boisterous, "Hey, DICKIE!!!" I'm sure Dick hated it worse than anybody, but we were all getting pretty annoyed with this guy.
So one night we checked into the hotel and Bob Flick decides to call the airport to see if there are any flights out that night going to our next destination. Sure enough - one leaves in 40 minutes. He booked us 4 seats, we called a cab and made it in plenty of time. (These were the days when you could do that sort of thing - no heavy security, etc.)
We were tucked in bed in the next city by 2:00 AM and the next morning when "Hey DICKIE" came knocking at the door we were long gone. They had to drive the 300 miles or whatever all by themselves and we took the day off! Unanimous vote on that one!
